Hands-On Science That Sticks
What sets me apart is my use of live practical demonstrations during tutoring sessions. Science is a hands-on subject, and incorporating practical elements helps make concepts easier to understand, more engaging, and more memorable.
I focus on two types of practicals:
- Core practicals from the science syllabus.
- Demonstrations that support teaching specific concepts.
Where possible, I perform the core practicals live, encouraging students to discuss the methods and interpret results in real time. When a live demonstration isn’t feasible (e.g. due to health and safety), I use high-quality video clips alongside interactive questioning.
Students also get involved using everyday items at home—like building molecules with Lego, exploring flower structures with daisies, or magnetising paperclips using fridge magnets—to experience science in action.

Meet Dr. Louise Heaton: Your Science Tutor
Louise was an excellent tutor for my daughter and inspired and motivated her to achieve success

Hi, I’m Dr. Heaton – a dedicated science educator with over 10 years of classroom and tutoring experience. I specialise in helping students build confidence and achieve top grades in GCSE and Key Stage 3 science.
I hold a PhD in Biology and a PGDE in Secondary Science and a Masters in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. I’ve taught in both state and independent schools, and I’ve helped hundreds of students succeed in their science exams—many going on to study science at university.
I believe that science should be accessible, engaging, and empowering. My lessons are interactive, tailored to each student’s pace, and focused on building a strong understanding—along with exam technique that gets results.
I’ve always loved helping students discover the “aha!” moments in science—it’s incredibly rewarding to see their confidence grow and their goals become reality.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me hiking, travel writing or experimenting with curry recipes!
I’d love to support your child on their science journey—feel free to get in touch to find out more.
Hi Louise,
Aaron did really well, better than expected. He passed all the sciences. I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to you for tutoring him since last year. I’ll definitely provide recommendations to other families who will be looking for science tutors to tutor their kids. Once again on behalf of Aaron and rest of the family, thank you so so much.

My tutoring approach
Focused, flexible, and designed to help students build strong science skills.
- Separate lessons for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
Each subject is taught individually to provide focused learning and deeper understanding. - Small-group and one-to-one options
Students can choose between small-group sessions for collaborative learning or one-to-one tuition for extra support. - Live practical demonstrations
Students observe and take part in practical demonstrations - Lessons tailored to grade level
Sessions are carefully planned to match the student’s KS3 or GCSE level, ensuring the right pace and challenge. - Regular exam practice
Students work with GCSE-style questions to build familiarity and confidence with exam formats. - Supportive learning environment
I create a positive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing in confidence.
